ABOUT

about

In 2006 the International Working Group on Financialization (IWGF) was established, based at Manchester Business School. In broad terms, their agenda is to draw together people interested in financialization.

The Australian Working Group on Financialization (AWGF) had its first meeting in May 2007, and operates a series of regular seminars to facilitate interdisciplinary study of issues around financialization.

It is intended that AWGF operate as a forum where issues get debates and interdisciplinary research programs get incubated. It is based in the Sydney region, but those from outside are encouraged to participate via this website, and prospectively via visits.

The AWGF involves a constituency of academics, finance journalists, financial sector regulators and people working in the finance industry. We start from the premise that issues of finance and accounting are of critical importance, but they should not remain the exclusive domain of the conventional wisdoms that dominate university departments of accounting and finance. Our membership reflects these heterodox visions.

The AWGF will provide a 'clearing house' for research, debate and contacts on the issues of financialization.

In its initial phase, the AWGF will hold monthly short workshops. Once the AWGF is well established it is established it is planned to holder larger workshops intended to draw wider participation from across Australila and New Zealand.
